This is a photo of Louis “Baby” Ortiz, 21, being taken into custody last night. The photo, which surfaced today, shows the suspected shooter, who was taken by police at 390 Bushwick Ave. several hours after the shooting of NYPD officer Kevin Brennan, 29, who was hit behind his right ear with a bullet later removed at Bellevue Hospital. Apparently, Ortiz was hiding out at his uncle’s apartment.
New information has emerged about what happened prior to the shooting. According to NBC New York, “Ortiz was shooting at someone with whom he had a stare down,” investigators said.
It turns out that Louis “Baby” Ortiz was not only known to police in the area, but one of the officers chasing him last night had actually arrested him before, according to NBC New York, which quoted authorities as saying that Ortiz is probably going to be charged with attempted murder.
